Ferrante was assigned to the 101st Airborne Division in Vietnam, serving as a pilot from 1969-1970. He was the unit’s instructor pilot and flew lead ship in many major combat assaults, as well as in cross-border operations run by the MACV-SOG CCN (Command and Control North) units out of Marble Mountain, Phu Bai and Dong Ha. In addition to his civilian piloting on returning to the States, Ray flew AH-1 Cobra helicopters for the New Jersey National Guard, also qualifying in the AH-64 Apache attack helicopter prior to his retirement from the Guard with the rank of Chief Warrant Officer grade 5 (CW5). Vietnam Memorial Picnic Recap

The General Anthony C. McAuliffe NY-NJ Chapter of the 101st Airborne Division Association held its annual Vietnam Veterans Memorial Picnic on June 7, 2014 at The New Jersey Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Holmdel Township, New Jersey. The chapter, family and friends remembered all those who served in Vietnam with a moving ceremony. The ceremony was followed by a jovial picnic on the museum lawn.

The picnickers were pleasantly surprised by the appearance of a group of young ROTC members who came to visit the memorial. Members of the chapter were able to share their advice and stories with the recruits and inform them that there are many organizations like the 101st Airborne Division Association available to them for support after they leave the service.

If you or a friend are looking to join a military association, check out this list of military and veteran associations for all service branches!

Thank you to all those who attended the picnic! Many thanks for any and all donations of food and beverages.
